  • Inner City Housing Project to be reviewed

Inner City Project to be reviewed Wednesday, 23 April 2008 There is to be a major overhaul of the Inner City Housing Project.

A review is to be carried out of the method used to identify beneficiaries in the wake of a rising delinquency rate.

It is reported that arrears are 69% compared to 13% for regular National Housing Trust mortgage accounts.

Bruce Golding said the situation cannot be allowed to continue.

"Some of them figure because it is ‘government house' many of them it is just because they just don't have the, they are not working and have never had a job but then you didn't have to work, you didn't have to have a job- you just get the house," he said.

"We cannot treat the housing trust contributor's money that way and there are contributors out there who cannot get a house,"

"But there are people who do not pay housing trust, they get the house, they get $1.5 million in subsidy and then they don't bother to pay," he continued.

A further 1,000 units are to be constructed on Spanish Town Road, Majestic and Denham Town.
