    Dual citizenship issue in St. Lucia

    Leader of the opposition St. Lucia Labour Party and former Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony has called for changes to be made to the electoral process in the country.

    On the heels of the dual citizenship case in Jamaica, Dr. Anthony pointed to a similar case in St. Lucia where Health Minister Dr. Keith Mondesir admitted to having Canadian citizenship.

    This was months after his election as a Member of Parliament in the 2006 general election.

    Dr. Anthony said the courts have a right to pronounce on the matter of dual citizenship and politicians should also declare where they stand on the issue.

      St Lucia and Canada are members of the commonwealth. I am suprized that St Lucians with Canadian citizenship cannot be elected to parliament.
      The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

          I thought that because we got our independence from the same Bakra master then backra would have ensure that any one of his citizens from around the word could continue to rule as Prime Minister in St Lucia.

          Well, We did out this in 1962 and St Lucia did it around 1979 perhaps the 17 years made a difference.

          The other things is that I noticed that most of the commonweatlth intially had laws that gave similiar rights to alll commonwealth citizens but time has eroded those benefits. Visa for UK, Canada etc.
