Trade unionist disappointed with income tax threshold adjustment
Friday, 11 April 2008
A senior trade unionist has expressed disappointment at the level of the adjustments to be made to the income tax threshold during this financial year.
Effective July the income tax threshold will be raised to $200,234.
The second increase will take effect on January One when the threshold will move to $220,272.
But President of the National Workers Union, Vincent Morrison, said with inflation still high the adjustments will have little effect on the work force. "Forty-five dollars per week is not much and I don't know what that can buy. I was hoping that it would have gone to at least $273,000. I am not sure I heard anything that is really going to contain inflation," said Mr. Morrison.
