  • Mayor Hinds threatens to take legal action over missing dona

    Thursday, 10 April 2008

Controversy is deepening over the whereabouts of money collected from a telethon held during the administration of former Mayor of Portmore George Lee.

During the monthly meeting of the Council on Wednesday night Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillors led by representative of the Naggo Head Division Dr. Andrew Wheatley called for a forensic audit.

Mayor Keith Hinds also threatened to take legal action against Mr. Lee.
Mayor Hinds said a lawsuit will be taken out if Mr. Lee continues with his public claim that employees of the Council failed to account for the nearly one million dollars collected from the telethon.

Dr. Wheatley insisted that an audit be carried out to ascertain where the money went.
In an interview with the RJR News Centre last month, Mr. Lee said sloppy accounting practices by Council officials caused problems with the management of the funds from the telethon.
He insisted that there was no impropriety in the handling of the money.
