Former MP's son pleads guilty to gun charge; fined $250,000

STEVE Mitchell, the son of former People's National Party member of parliament, Phyllis Mitchell, was fined $250,000 on gun and ammunition charges in the gun court on Wednesday or five years behind bars.
Mitchell, who on Wednesday pleaded guilty to charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, was released after his mother paid the fine.
The young Mitchell was arrested on November 11 last year at his recording studio along Manor Drive in Kingston 8, where a police team took a 357 Magnum with five live rounds from his waistband.
After being held with the gun, Mitchell reportedly begged the police, "Do, no kill mi, a Phyllis Mitchell a mi madda", in reference to the former PNP member of parliament for the North East St Catherine constituency, who was defeated in last September's general election in her bid to regain the seat.
The police had gone to the studio after learning that a man was seen there with a gun.
The young Mitchell told the police that a friend, who was leaving the island, gave the gun to him.
