Dan Senor: Condoleezza Rice is Pursuing the VP Spot

ABCNews’ Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination, according to Republican Strategist Dan Senor. “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.

“There's this ritual in Washington, the Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders, about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor explained. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. The first time a Secretary of State has visited the Wednesday Meeting.”

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of Senator John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign. “What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with.

The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is,” Senor said. “The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option.”

She would be. I don't see it happening though, she doesn't bring any voting bloc to the table that McCain doesn't already have.

I would more see him selecting Romney to passify the neo-cons somewhat.

they would be courting the black vote and hoping that it dips into obama's supporters.

yuh right rice adds nothing however.

btw unnuh notice seh while hialry wainting for obama to implode, he campaign is imploding....except that i think karl will see it differently. she is not imploding...she's streamlining!!!!

Can't see many black people going for Condi over Obama. If it was Powell that would be different, but not chickenhawk Condi.

Hillary is slowly sinking away. I still think they have a card left up thier sleeve though. There is more to the "Obama can't win" line they have been using with the superdelegates than we know right now.

I think it would help with the women votes and the independent vote. Also politically it takes away the race card element and the old man stigma that Mcain has.

It would seem calculating and cheap to me.

I mean, if Condi is selected, I hope the voters will see right thru it and realise that she isn't being selected for any other reason than to steal votes away from Barack and/or Hillary. My view.
