  • The jamaican ecosystems:

I recall my last visit to Jamaica x years ago, i noticed that very little care was given to the ecosystems of: sea reefs, rivers, mountains and forrest.

I went to certain areas of different beach-- and noticed that all / some marine life forms have been destroyed. the same for some rivers...

There were erosion in some areas because of severe deforrestation.

    I could go on..

    QUESTION:

Could some one post articles that address efforts on care of the Island.

    thanks in advance.

    Do you really care, HL?

If you do, check out http://www.nepa.gov.jm/

Not all of us have thrown up our hands, waiting for Jamaica to slip into the abyss of no return. I have friends who are busy transplanting sea grass as they develop an area of the north coast for tourists.

Yes, some tragic things have occurred in the past and are still occurring, and we have addressed some and must address others. My biggest problem is the plastic bottles and styrofoam that are piling up all over the place, in gullies (natural and man-made) and eventually on our shores. The time is ripe for a wealthy Jamaican a farin to invest in Jamaica and find a way to clean this up. I would like to think some Kern kinda money can be made from this. But as a nation, there must be some policy regarding these items. A hear wi change course suh I'm optimistic!

This is somewhat premature but certain people have some BIG plans to address this issue using interesting technology which MAY BE like this - www.startech.net

Please note: I will deny any attribution of this premature info to don1, my heirs or assigns.

However if it comes to pass, you can say you heard it on reggaeboyzsc.com first.

        Yes Mosiah, I do care!!

        Thanks for the link.

I dont know if it's possible but harvesting Parrot fish should be illegal for 5 years. Spiny lobsters under a determined size should also be illegal...

Glad to see conservation is being approached on a corporate type level.,

I totally agree with you. Went to a roadside restaurant in St. Thomas and the parrotfish were young of the year - 3 in a plate. the owner sadi thats all they could get...I told him him soon can't get none....same thing Hellshire...about 10 lobster in a plate (couple next table)...I have pics...they were like 2 inches each...sad....but once there's a ready market..it will sell.
