'Trinity' Gardner seconded to UWI as head of security

GARDNER. to develop and implement a comprehensive policy and security management strategy for university
ASSISTANT Commissioner of Police Keith Gardner has been seconded to the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) as director of security.
The appointment, which is for one year, took effect on February 10, the university said in a press statement.
"As director, ACP Gardner will evaluate the current security management strategy, policy and procedures for the Mona campus as part of an initiative to develop and implement a comprehensive policy and security management strategy for the campus. He will also monitor industry trends and make recommendations to ensure that the campus' safety and security policy and practices are up to date," the statement said.
Gardner will also monitor the performance of the security providers employed by the university and develop and implement training programmes on safety management and crime prevention for members of the campus community.
He will also develop and implement measures to ensure that members of the campus community and the general public adhere to the laws of Jamaica and the policies of the university in areas such as traffic and parking, the use of facilities, movement of property and personal conduct.
Said the university: "ACP Gardner brings a wealth of experience to the position, having had a long and distinguished career in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). He comes to the UWI from the Office of the Commissioner of Police, where he was responsible for disciplinary matters, which included reviewing the disciplinary process within the JCF, advising the policy process, and making recommendations on disciplinary charges and trial where indicated."
Gardner holds the Bachelor of Law (LLB (Hons) as well as the Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies and is a trained mediator, certified public administrator and criminal investigator, with other qualifications in traffic accident reconstruction.
