    Policemen on NSWMA payroll

The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) discovered the names of several policemen on its payroll.

The executive director of the authority, Joan Gordon-Webley said since the matter came to her attention the names of the policemen have been removed.

Mrs. Gordon Webley said the policemen were being paid by the NSWMA for security, among them is an assistant commissioner of police.

She said there is no documentation indicating the specifics of the services. However, she was concerned that agents of the state were being paid by the NSWMA to provide security.

Mrs. Gordon Webley said she has reported the matter to the Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin.

She said the decision to remove the names of the policemen from the NSWMA payroll is among several other efforts to clean up the irregularities at the public cleansing agency.

Mrs. Gordon Webley said the restructuring of the NSWMA should save the agency about $57 million a year.

She said the NSWMA has also tightened its four-tier management system and scrapped the rental of plants as part of a cost cutting move.
