Opposition needs something to do – Grange
Friday, 14 March 2008
The Government has dismissed concerns raised by the Opposition regarding the absence of weekly Post-Cabinet press briefings.
A statement from Spokesman on Information Lisa Hanna Thursday highlighted that in the past three weeks no press briefings were held following meetings of the Cabinet.
Miss Hanna called for an explanation and said the Government should ensure that a post-cabinet press briefing is held before Parliament resumes on March 27th and the new Budget is tabled.
Minister of Information Olivia "Babsy" Grange said the Opposition's concern was without basis.
She said the Government had issued releases to the media stating that there would be no briefings due to preparations for the 2008/2009 Budget.
"I think it's a non-issue and the opposition just seems to be looking for something to do. They need something on which to spend their time," said Mrs. Grange.
She said although no post-Cabinet press briefings have been held the media had been kept abreast of Government activities and plans through frequent press releases.
