It is not certain if Bruno will become the No. 2 man. It is not automatic who assumes that position.

This is the man who is expected to become the Lt. Gov. in the very near future. He too has Jamaican roots.
Minority Leader, Malcolm A. Smith, D-Queens
(Of course, this might depend on how many extra-marital affairs he has had.)

It will be vacant
According to the NY Times, the position of
lieutenant governor
will be left vacant through 2010 under the terms of the State Constitution.
If this was CT, the majority leader of the Senate would become Lt. Governor.

But it is expected that the minority leader, Smith, will become the majority leader of the NY senate and thereby become the lt. gov.
So no, it was not the Italian, Bruno, I was talking about.
