The People's National Party (PNP) is reportedly making plans to meet on Wednesday to discuss the status of the North West (NE) St. Elizabeth constituency represented by Kern Spencer.
As the PNP regroups after Tuesday's stunning revelations that Mr. Spencer has been slapped with multiple criminal charges relating to the Cuban Light Bulb scandal, one political analyst said the party's image has been dealt a serious blow.
The PNP had in the past months stayed fairly quiet on most issues relating to Mr. Spencer.
Despite being questioned many times by the media on his status within the party since the allegations of impropriety surfaced, the party leader and top officials have remained tight lipped.
Instead they have chosen to let the investigation run its course.
But with criminal charges now being laid against the NE St. Elizabeth Member of Parliament, political analyst Lloyd B. Smith said the party's image has been tarnished.
He said the PNP had a long and hard road ahead to regain the confidence of the people.
Mr. Smith added that a special effort would have to be made to rebound the trust of the country's young electorate.
Mr. Smith feels that the way the party had dealt with the young politician's legal battles clearly showed internal problems with unity.
He said the lack of unity had helped to soil the party's image.
