    Editorial Cartoon

So, the law of the land should be set aside for Daryl Vaz to do his work as a member of parliament. Then what about Kern Spencer, shouldn't the attack dogs be called off as well?

    Observer - Beechwood Ave streetwalker

It's sad to see the decline and prostitution of this once promising newspaper. Sadder still to realize that Jamaica has only the Gleaner to rely on (what a calamity) as an honest broker in the major print media.

Well the poll results on the website seem to indicate that the public cares not about the dual citizenship issue. That would make the cartoon an accurate representation of the publics mindset.

It's about both of them possibly breaking the law. You can rate their transgressions all you want.

Dual citizenship is a non issue to most Jamaicans. People are more concerned with corruption and their fear of crime.

deportees get sent home for murder and for jumping turnstiles. I'll admit that Vaz may be jumping turnstiles, but it is illegal! Lawbreakers can't be lawmakers!

Most problems are non issue to most Jamaicans! Each Jamaican ranks the issues as he/she focuses on immediate concerns. So it does not mean that, for example, an issue such as nationality of and or right to sit in our Parliament is not of grave significance to the country.

I think the number one priority of most Jamaicans would be 'putting food on the table'! Not crime! Not corruption! That would not mean that solving the 'crime problem' and the 'corruption problem' is not of great importance and thus must be tackled immediately.

There is also the matter of being accepting that 'the authorities' will solve and or 'take care' of some matters that are important but not of immediate overriding concern to the ordinary citizen when compare to the daily 'making a living'? Perhaps this 'dual citizen issue' is one such? It could very well be that most Jamaicans are of firm belief that 'the authorities' will bring the matter to a satisfactory conclusion. The reasoning could be that there is no reason for the ordinary citizen to 'get hot under the collar' and apportion more than cursory passing interest?

Perhaps crime and murders in particular have escalated to its current frightening levels because most Jamaicans were in the past not particualarly concerned and maybe today still too many are not particularly concerned as the incidence of crime and or murders do not immediately affect them and maybe...just maybe the matter of that 'daily making a living'/being able to 'survive' consumes them?
