  • Corruption Prevention Commission meets

    Wednesday, 13 February 2008

A Parliamentary Committee has ordered an inventory of the previous recommendations of the Corruption Prevention Commission. The order was made when a Joint Select committee charged with examining that report and several others met Wednesday morning.

In addition to the report of Corruption Prevention Commission, the Committee will also examine reports submitted by the Contractor General, The Children's Advocate and the Public Defender.

In making a decision on its terms, the Committee chose to begin with the report of the Corruption Prevention Commission.

Committee Member Maxine Henry Wilson pointed out that several of the reports were prepared several years ago.

That prompted a suggestion from Opposition Member Dr. Peter Phillips that an inventory be done of previous reports.

The inventory is to be done by several students from the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of the West Indies, Mona.

The Corruption Prevention Commission came into being in 2003.

Among other things, the Commission investigates complaints of corruption among public officials.

It was also charged with receiving and keeping statutory declarations furnished by public servants.
