  • Kern Spencer will not resign

Embattled former State Minister for Energy, Kern Spencer says he has no intention of resigning his parliamentary seat in the wake of the release of the Contractor General's Report on the Cuban Light Bulb saga.

Speaking with RJR News Wednesday night, the North East St. Elizabeth Member of Parliament said he has not been asked by anyone to give up his seat.

He says so far he has received nothing but support from his constituents.

In a report released earlier this week, the Contractor-General accused the former Junior Minister of unwarranted and improper ministerial intervention in the procurement process.

The report said several of the contractors for the Light Bulb Project were handpicked and engaged directly by Mr. Spencer.

Among them was the mother of one of his children.

The grandmother of one of his children was also given a contract.

Copies of the report have been sent to the Police Commissioner, Director of Public Prosecution, the Commissioner for the Prevention of Corruption, the Attorney General and the Auditor General.

The People's National Party's (PNP) General Secretary Peter Bunting said Wednesday that the decision to resign his parliamentary seat was being left entirely up to Mr. Spencer.

he better start preparing for a criminal defense... based on what i have read in the papers, his conduct in the bulb distribution saga is criminal...
