A few names for you :

Maxine Waters - congress woman California
David Dinkins - Mayor New York
    Harold Wshington - Mayor Chicago

All these candidates had large hispanic support, and in some instances were dealing with competion from other hispanic contenders.

noted about the yucas. i will admit that the 2000 race in fl was closer than i might thought given that jeb bush' wife is latina (don't remember if it's mexican or colombian).

i can state though that it is not just the older ones, i had a few friends from hialeah, my age group, i.e. post bay of pigs who were staunchly repugs (as you say) quite a few of them have moved north....and some probably have voting have kids by now .... not sure what the thinking of those children will be.

don't mistake lou dobbs campaign fi the republican position though.

but cuba has the advantage of the wet foot dry foot policy which the mexicans do not enjoy.....plus cubans can still defect, so i would not think that the anti-illegal immigrant thing is such an issue with the cubans.

Agreed , but this one is different.

Note that in the southern primaries Obama is expected to outperform the Repugs - primary for priimary. By himself he outperformed them in South Carolina. And there is expected to be simlar performances in GA, MI, AL. I am not sure you need a Southern conservative this time, to get some red states for the Dems. That is why - although I dont like it - the Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton ticket may be more of possibility that most realise.

look giuliani didn't carry a single state but his support for mccain has bolstered mccains stocks..i think edwards can do that for the dems....bring out the white male voters who hilaray and barack will have a trouble attracting.

The primaries will mislead you! I agree that they need eachother's support and fund raising assistance. However, I still dont think they can help eachother as running mates.

We are on the same page they are not the solid monolith they used to be.

Even if the Repugs aren't as riled up as Lou Dobbs - immigration is the new 'abortion' in that it is being used as a wedge issue to separate the HIpanic voters. I like what OB said last night in response to the question that black unemployment was due to immigration. That kind of 'fair minded' response goes a far way. Remember he does not have to win the group just split enough off to win a few delegates.

They have already been split. Who cares, you have females , blacks and the core dems, more than a few independents and Obamicans

I was refering to the fact that the vote for BO in SC was large than the entire Repug turn out in SC. Primary turnout usually lags behind presindential turnout - on both sides.

Exactly! That is not unusual. However, when the general election comes, South Carolina's "red voters" usually turn out.

The fundraising ability and the endorsement still matters. I just dont any of those three can help anyother as a running mate.

Against McCain BO would split the independet. Probably in their favor.
Hillary fires up the GOP base and they get to keep the Independents.
If BO is there - huge black and youth turn out. No BO on the ticket no blacks , no youth. I am convinced he will be on the ticket. He is ambitious enough to put aside the fact that he will be behind Bill in influence. The risk is his integrity will be tarnishedd by association.

him hate Dinkins all the black politicans in NY cause Dinkins beat him. Him support Guliani and the former governmer.

Him maybe hate Clinton cause them have office up a Harlem. Him also love Bush as well.

Ok. I will agree that if BO takes the ticket - HRC might not be his running mate. Not sure who has the southern appeal that would not distance blacks. Again - no BO - no blacks, no youth. The modern Dems have never won an election without black support.

Do not underestimate the degree to which the conservative coalition is peeved at Bush and the GOP. Also they are not excited about McCain and Romney - not considered true Reagan Conservatives. Check out how Rush Limbaugh labasts them every chance he gets.

As Westman said BO can't bring in red votes
and you need a southern state to enter the white house
