Too late Mr. Golding

Member of Parliament, (MP), for West Kingston, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, is facing more criticism over his slow response to Sunday's controversial operation in Tivoli Garden, despite a visit to the area.

Three days after the security forces swooped down on Tivoli Gardens, leaving five men dead, Mr. Golding went to the community.

His visit followed accusations of betrayal from residents who accused the MP of giving them the cold shoulder.

Convenor for Families Against State Terrorism, (FAST), Yvonne McCalla-Sobers, said it is going to take more than a visit for Mr. Golding to recover from the backlash.

Mrs. McCalla Sobers said the operations by the security forces, was not just another incident.

She said it created deep trauma for a group of people and deeper trauma still, for the owners of the house in which the men were killed.

Following his visit, Mr. Golding issued a statement in which he said an independent pathologist will be present at the post mortem examinations.

He said a coroner's inquest might have to be held into the shootings.

Actually Bruce was right to move cautiously...while showing even handedness....i.e. showing he has no problem with the police carrying out operations...as long as such operations are lawful and professionally done (deliberately carried out before [planning stages], during and at the conclusion in a sensible professional manner).

Calling for an inquest is no big thing..whether politically motivated or not! It will put a 'period' at the end of lawful operation...and answer any questions the people in Tivoli and the rest of Jamaica may have regarding 'soundness' or 'no' of the operation.

Waste of time! Whenever the crime seen has been tampered with we invariably get a verdict that no one can be held liable, or acquittal. It's time the people who tamper with the scene or allow it to be tampered with be charged with a crime. Only then will they learn to not to try and cover up their wrongdoings.

Say the security forces free to operate :- It will win some more political points.

Go in long after the operation :- Tivoli resident will forgive you

Call for an inquiry :- Now Tivoli residents really happy

End the end result of the inquiry : - No one will be held accountable

And what about Bruce's image? Looks better in the eyes of the general public.

so what should he do? all of that seems like the right thing to do.

Couldn't care less what ulterior motives he may have. He is doing the right thing. Let's not unnecessarily doubt and second guess everything.

Just reporting the facts. Many Tivoli residents wondered why Bruce said nothing.

Now let me say my piece.

I have other ideas how to catch these wanted men and how to tame Tivoli. Raiding Tivoli to catch wanted men is playing with fire, this is not war, collateral damage is unacceptable, why not wait until they come out?

And why not try the New York City strategy of flooding the community permanently with cops? What if we invade Tivoli only once and leave 100 soliders and police there permanent for the the next four years?

I wonder what effect seeing that bullet riddled building daily will have on the gunmen who were anti police from the get go(yes, that was the primary objective)? Evoking a stronger hatred?
I suspect the operation is an absolute failure.

Bruce can always pull up his chair and sit smack in the middle, but in the end he has to encourage a serious, impartial investigation.

I would love if journalists examine the 'timing' of the dealy operation.

It will be difficult to tamper with the scene and evidence to the extent that the basic info that the cops were fired on and how the men met their deaths could be compromised?

Entry and exit wounds (on the men), and entry, exit bullets marks on and within the building and photgraphs (some of which we saw here...so i am assuming there were many others taken and there are many under the custody of the security forces) will help to tell a part of the true story.
