  • Compensate residents of Tivoli Gardens

    Monday, 14 January 2008

Councillor for the Tivoli Gardens Division and Mayor of Kinston, Desmond McKenzie, is demanding that the police compensate residents whose properties were damaged during a massive police/military operation in the community on Sunday.

According to Mr. McKenzie, more than 30 houses were affected.

He said in several instances, doors were kicked off and furniture as well as appliances damaged.

Mr. McKenzie said he is compiling a list of all those who incurred damage and will be making claims against the security forces.

in this case i agree that he should not yet get involved....seaga had promised the security forces "safe passage" ...ill advised statement....true that he was able to make arrangements for the safe passage...but ill advised nonetheless.

my guess is that tivoli might soon turn against him..

The PM doesn't comment on issues
dealing with crime and security forces. Banking schemes, Trafigura scandal, light bulb scandal et al would be more in order

He delegates the natio's security ( I guess this way he looks Prime ministerial; whatever that means).

Tivolites on TV last night were not happy. They wanted to see the man who they voted in as prime minister of the country. They wanted "justice!"

Orett is pulling a Portia right now. Disappeared at a time when we would really like to hear from him.

In a perfect world he is absolutly right but given the fact

that this is Jamaica which has a crime and garrison problem then it ain't happening.

If police intelligence was accurate then they would know exactly whose door to kick off but when you have people shooting back then all rules go out the window.

mo, the only thing he needs to say if anything at all is that he supports the police operations in pursuit of criminal elements wherever they happen to be and as evidenced by this operation, his constituency is not immune from law enforcement...

i would tend to agree that he need not be involved at this time... its full time a leader of a garrison set a precedent and break away from the mold... let the criminals realize that their shelter is fast diminishing...

bruce would be a stronger man and leader if he stood his ground and not cower to the idiots in tivoli...

Agree with McKenzie innocents whose property were damaged should be compensated and with haste.
