Over 40 cops moved from St James
HORACE HINES, Observer staff reporter hinesh@jamaicaobserver.com
    Saturday, January 12, 2008

MONTEGO BAY, St James - More than 40 rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were earlier this week transferred from the St James Police Division in what the divisional commander, Superintendent Steve McGregor, said was a move to improve efficiency.
"Some were transferred because they were in the division for a long time, and it is the view of the high command to move them elsewhere," said McGregor. "Some were transferred to make way for new people."
McGregor dismissed talk on the streets that the transfers were effected in an effort to curb alleged involvement in illegal activities by some cops, and held up his own transfer from Kingston to St James in 2007 as an example of how the constabulary operates.
"The Police High Command transfers police from time to time and that is the reason why I was transferred here from St Thomas last year," McGregor told the Observer last night.

and the new replacements will get a chance to make some money from the drug trade. A transfer to Mo Bay is a promotion.

It is a good first step to rotate cops from Mobay, and due to so much of dem teking bribes cops should declare their assets.

It appears hopeless when we place a bandaid over a gaping wound.
This must be what the army guy was talking about fighting corruption in the force;just transfer them. Suspicion abound, yet no dismissal or arrest.
            Yawn!

How about dimissal in the public interest? Can you imagine the shock that it would send in the system if all 40 were dimissed in the intest of the public?

Mcmillan tried that by firing some and putting some in office but it was fought tooth and nail by the police and also contributed to them fighthing him out.

Trying to eliminate corruption in one big swoop would be ideal. However, it appears small incremental steps may prove productive in the long term.

He was not forced out. He refused PJ offer to renew his contract then went of radio to announced that he had changed his mind before checking back with PJ. Many folks who knew both saw it as shadism.
