Minister of Commerce, Karl Samuda, is reporting a further decline in metals theft since regulations were implemented last year.
According to Mr. Samuda, the illegal scrap metal trade has been virtually wiped out.
New regulations were tabled in Parliament in November to monitor and regulate the multi-million dollar scrap metal trade.
The regulations include among other things, fines and penalties for breaches, the licensing of legitimate traders and the introduction of inspectors to monitor activities in the sector.
