he is the son of an immigrant and also first generation black Americans seem to have a different outlook on life than African Americans who have been here longer.

U r right, I see it all the time in the work place where African Americans who have been here for generations see things different than those who were born here of immigrant parents. The is a difference in confidence and a stronger believe in the system thus giving them more acceptance.

Thats my experience too. Sometimes some exposure makes a difference too, I have seen African Americans I know who have travelled to places like the Caribbean and Latin America and see the spirit of people in much more difficult circumstances and it changes their outlook on things in the US.
