NSWMA head being accused of using state resources for political gain
Head of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, (NSWMA), Joan Gordon Webley, is dismissing reports that she used state resources for political gain.
Mrs. Gordon Webley was responding to a letter, released to the media Wednesday, in which Member of Parliament for South East St. Andrew, Maxine Henry-Wilson, accused her of using her new post to ‘curry favour' with the constituents of South East St. Andrew.
Mrs. Henry Wilson released pictures to the media that showed Mrs. Gordon Webley handing out Christmas gifts in Southeast St. Andrew from an NSWMA vehicle.
Mrs. Henry Wilson also questioned whether Mrs. Gordon Webley was still the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the constituency.
In response to the allegations, Mrs. Gordon Webley said she has not been the JLP caretaker for the area since November.
She explained that since becoming head of the NSWMA, she has lead efforts to establish a welfare committee.
She said the items distributed in the constituency were donated by persons through the NSWMA's welfare committee and were not bought with state funds.
Mrs. Gordon-Webley also raised concern about how the pictures released by Mrs. Henry-Wilson to the media were acquired.
