The Food and Agriculture Organisation, (FAO), has listed Jamaica among nations in the region facing a food crisis.
Other countries listed on a reported released Thursday are, St Lucia, Dominica and Haiti.
The FAO said these countries are not producing food at the required levels to support the local demand, resulting in sky-rocketing food prices and major shortages.
The FAO said as a result, Jamaica and the other countries will be in need of foreign assistance due to the shortfall in food supplies.
It said the situation is linked to floods caused by tropical storms, with several crops being devastated during the passage of Hurricane Dean in October, which led to a hike in price for the commodities.
