  • Lewin hits the ground running

Newly appointed Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, has begun meeting with senior members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), disclosing his priorities for the organisation.

Following his swearing-in ceremony on Monday, the rear admiral met with the executive of the Police Officers' Association (POA) and outlined his immediate plans for the police force.

"The man has convinced me that he is a good man for the police force at this time," a member of the POA told The Gleaner yesterday.

The new commissioner yesterday met with members of the Police Officers' Club in St. Andrew, where he outlined his strategies to tackle the crime problem and improve the image of the police force.

    Heading the list

An officer who attended the meeting, said top of the commissioner's list were plans to reduce crime, improve public safety, anti-corruption strategies, the management of resources, and the transformation of the force.

Commissioner Lewin is expected to say more about his plans and strategies tomorrow, when he meets with members of the press.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
