Two gunmen who early Friday morning held up a group of visitors to the island in Portmore, St. Catherine, were shot and injured by the police.
It is reported that tourists drove up to a house in Bridgeport, when two armed men attacked them, stealing their vehicle which was laden with luggage and other personal effects.
About an hour later, the vehicle with the men aboard was spotted by the police along Old Harbour Road in the parish.
They were signaled to stop, but reportedly refused and opened fire at the police, who returned the fire.
The men fled the vehicle and one of them was found in nearby bushes, with a Glock pistol with 11 rounds.
The other gunman was held shortly after, when he turned up at hospital with a gunshot wound to his stomach.
The police say the men will face an identification parade in connection with a spate of robberies in Portmore.
