Three members of Montego Bay's feared Stone Crusher Gang were shot dead early Thursday morning.
The men were killed just after one o'clock in a reported shoot-out with members of a joint police military team.
In an Operation Kingfish operation, policemen, attached to the Special Anti Crime Task Force and the Moneague police station and soldiers, went into the Moneague Housing Scheme in St. Ann.
The team was allegedly fired on.
During the blazing gun-battle which followed the three were shot and killed.
One of them is identified only as Damian, who the police say was wanted in connection with the murder of Sergeant Allan Lindsay.
Sergeant Lindsay was shot dead in Glendevon, St. James two Sundays ago.
Up to newstime the other two were unidentified.
The police also seized three firearms.
One of the guns is suspected to have been taken from Sergeant Lindsay.
The bullet proof vest which was being worn by Sergeant Lindsay when he was killed was allegedly also found.
A nine millimetre pistol and a .38 revolver were also seized.
In the meantime, Operation Kingfish is appealing to residents who notice the presence of strange men in their community to call the hotline 811.
Spokesman for Operation Kingfish Inspector Steve Brown told RJR News that criminal elements have been moving to other communities as they try to evade capture.
