RJR News has been informed that the search is now on for a new General Secretary for the People's National Party (PNP) following Monday's resignation of Donald Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan who is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for South West St. Elizabeth, had declared last year, that he would not contest the September 3 general election.
He was persuaded to take up the reigns of General Secretary following the resignation of Colin Campbell, who came under fire for his role in the controversial Trafigura affair.
Mr. Buchanan handed in his resignation Monday following what some described as a tough year in the Party's 69-year history.
The resignation is scheduled to take effect on December 31.
Mr. Buchanan issued a coy response to word of his pending resignation when contacted by RJR News Tuesday.
His departure could pave the way for the selection of former PNP Youth Organisation President Basil Waite as the Party's General Secretary.
Mr. Waite was the Party's National Organiser for the recently concluded Local Government election.
He however, could face a challenge from Deputy General Secretary Julian Robinson and sitting MP's Anthony Hylton and Peter Bunting, who are also being eyed as possible replacements.
