Beenie Man versus tax department

Lawyers representing international dancehall artiste, Moses ‘Beenie Man' Davis, said they are moving to hold talks with the tax authorities regarding his multi-million dollar debt.
This was stated Monday morning when the artiste and his attorneys appeared before the Tax Court.
The court was told that Beenie Man is now trying to obtain documents from his former management company, Shocking Vibes, which will assist him to make a case His attorneys told Magistrate Owen Parkin that they would make arrangements to settle his debt as soon as they receive those documents.
Beenie Man was taken into custody on a warrant in October after he failed to appear before the court to answer charges of tax evasion.
The tax authorities allege that he owes the state $47 million in income tax, $29 million of which is unpaid tax with penalties of $18 million.
Beenie Man has blamed his former management company Shocking Vibes for his dilemma, claiming the company was responsible for paying all his taxes.
He has also challenged the tax assessment.
He is scheduled to return to court on January 22.
