Two members of the Island Special Constabulary Force Saturday traded bullets in the Sav-La-Mar fish market.
The incident left one policeman in serious condition in hospital and two other persons injured.
It is reported that about 6:15 in the evening, both men were in the market when they bumped into each other.
One policeman saw that the other was armed.
Both men reportedly exchanged words and then one of the policemen ran out of the market.
The other then pulled his firearm and fired shots at the fleeing policeman, who returned the fire, hitting his colleague.
The injured policeman was taken to a hospital in the area and then transferred to another hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
The two other persons injured were treated at hospital and released.
At the time of the incident both policemen were apparently unaware of each others identity.
