Instructions have been issued to the management of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) to put on hold all plans to cut staff at the cash-strapped entity.
More than 100 drivers and conductors were slated to be laid off Friday as part of the ongoing reorganisation of the bus company.
But following a lengthy meeting Thursday involving trade union officials and the JUTC management, the Ministry of Labour requested that all job cuts be delayed.
Labour Minister Pearnel Charles says the parties failed to resolve a dispute regarding the restructuring.
He says the parties will meet again Friday morning to continue talks.
JUTC is hoping to cut 300 jobs before the end of the month in order to reduce huge financial losses at the company.
