PNP Chairman shot in Central Kingston

People's National Party (PNP) Chairman for Central Kingston, Joseph Knight, is in critical condition after being shot in the constituency Monday night.
It is reported that shortly before 8 o'clock, Mr. Knight was on East Queens Street when a car drove up.
The occupants opened fire hitting him twice in the stomach and arm.
Mr. Knight, who is 60 years old, is also the campaign manager for the PNP candidate in the Rae Town Division Ann-Marie Morrison.
Member of Parliament for Central Kingston, Ronnie Thwaites, says Mr. Knight was shot as he was about to make his way to a campaign meeting in the Division.
"He lives on East Queen Street and he was coming from the premises and as he was entering his car to attend a campaign meeting at about seven o'clock. A car passed him slowly and he was shot four times," said Mr. Thwaites.
Mr. Knight's shooting has sparked fresh tension in sections of Central Kingston.
The area has been on edge since the recent shooting of another political representative.
Two weeks ago Jamaica Labour Party candidate for the Rae Town Division Rosalie Hamilton was shot.
Miss Hamilton was reportedly sitting outside her house on Gold Street when a man opened fire hitting her in the chest.
Miss Hamilton is still recovering from her wounds.
Mayor of Kingston Desmond McKenzie has been leading her campaign for Wednesday's Local Government Elections.
