The Government is getting tough on operators of large vehicles which exceed the weight limit.
The matter was discussed at Cabinet Monday.
Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry will at Tuesday morning's post-Cabinet press briefing outline plans to re-institute a programme for commercial vehicle weight limit enforcement.
The matter has become a major problem for the authorities as overloaded vehicles have been damaging the country's roads and bridges.
In one recently publicised incident in Portland, scores of residents in the Rio Grande Valley were stranded after a truck damaged the Dry River Bridge.
The bridge, which links the communities of Bowden, Comfort Castle and Milbank, was torn down by a truck which the police said exceeded the 12 ton weight limit for vehicles using the bridge.
Several people including school children had to walk through the Dry River to reach home.
