Still struggling to come up with nearly $4 billion to repair roads damaged by nearly two months of heavy rains the Government has approached the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for assistance.
Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry on Tuesday night disclosed that the Government is seeking a loan of US$25 million or just under two billion Jamaican dollars.
The money will augment funds which the Government hopes to provide to expedite road repairs.
Mr. Henry told our news centre that negotiations are in progress for the IDB to release the funds by January.
He says an additional $700 million was approved by his Ministry Tuesday to repair roads across the island.
Estimates released last week by the Transport Ministry placed the damage to roads following the heavy rains at $3.5 billion.
