The RJR News Centre has received information of major problems emerging in the Attorney General's office.
There is mounting consternation in legal circles that the approach being adopted by new Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne is creating turmoil in that office.
At the centre, is the appointment of a Solicitor General to replace Michael Hylton.
Well placed legal and political sources say the Office of the Public Service preferred choice was Stephen Vasciannie, the well-respected attorney with expertise in international law.
But this is being opposed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Ms. Lightbourne.
The appointment has been put on hold while Deputy Solicitor General Patrick Foster temporarily fills the slot in an acting capacity.
But members of the legal fraternity claim this is just a facade as the Attorney General has effectively taken over the role of Solicitor General.
Mr. Hylton stepped down in August to return to private practice.
Mr. Vacciannie played a dominant role in the formation of the National Democratic Movement with Mr. Golding in 1995, but since then their relationship has soured.
It is understood that Ms. Lightbourne has also irked staff members of the Attorney General's office as sources say she has been moving to take on the day to day running of the department.
The long-serving Senator has also reportedly upset experienced staff members by instructing them to use legal briefs she has prepared, to carry out their tasks in court.
Efforts to contact Miss Lightbourne Sunday night were unsuccessful.
