  • We need more resources - Police

Amid the release of the latest version of the list of the island's 12 most wanted men, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Denver Frater is calling for more resources for the police to fight crime.

"Policing in Jamaica continues to be a very challenging situation, the crime situation is becoming more challenging every day and it will require a continuous review of our way of doing policing as well as our policing capabilities, investigative, operational and intelligence capabilities," Frater told The Gleaner yesterday.

    Policing strategies

The ACP added that: "As often as we see it necessary to make that adjustment by way of demanding additional resources, by way of training, networking, we will continue to speak to the authorities to let them know what is going to be needed to make that improvement in our policing strategies."

Despite this call, ACP Frater said that when the men on the most wanted list are captured by the police, they would have sufficient evidence to put them away.

"We are satisfied that if we were to arrest these persons tomorrow, we have the capacity to get them before the courts in the earliest possible time with the best evidence, and again with the support of the community to guarantee their removal for a long time."

The men deemed most wanted are said to be armed, dangerous and mobile. Three of them hail from St. James, four from St. Catherine, and five men from Kingston. Three brothers hail from High Mountain in Bog Walk, St. Catherine. A reward of $1 million each is being offered for the wanted men.

"They are all in the most dangerous category. These are criminals we are advising communities to be extremely cautious of, these guys are armed and dangerous and we need people in these communities to provide all the information necessary for us to remove them," said ACP Frater.

    Those wanted

Those making the list are Eldon Calvert; Cedrick Murray, also called 'Paul Brown'; Wayne Dryden, Deon Dryden, otherwise called 'Long Head'; Linton Dryden, Wilberforce Matterson, aka 'Cracker'; Kemor Brooks, aka 'Problem Child'; Lincoln Powell aka 'Harry Dog'; Carey Rose, also called 'Tyson'; Gerald Taylor, also known as 'Rado'; Richard Brown, aka 'Jesus'; and Robert Brown, also known as 'Denero'.
