LETTER OF THE DAY - Ancient roots of Mideast conflict
published: Tuesday | September 19, 2006 <DIV class=KonaBody>
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ with interest Mr. Seaga's article in The Sunday Gleaner of September 17. I believe that most people know the story of Isaac and Ishmael. However, I wish to point out to Mr. Seaga that the issue with the IRA and Britain as he outlined is correct except that Mrs. Thatcher would not be seen dead at a Labour Party conference. It would have to be a Tory (Conservative) party conference.
Also, that the west and their educational institutions have always given credit to everyone else on their inventions knowing full well that (in this case the invention of the alphabet) was by the Egyptians (then Black Africans).
The solution Mr. Seaga put forth to bring peace in the Middle East is an excellent idea. I now call on Mr. Seaga and all other professorial fraternities to start attacking the white vs. black racism issue by speaking the truth about civilisation. That the ancient Black African Egyptians have given the world the sciences, medicine, social behaviour, structured government and a host of other faculties. That the Greeks stole them when Alexander invaded Egypt. Aristotle stole the books, some people say Alexander gave him the money to purchase them. Where could he purchase them when at that time there were no libraries in Greece, no printers, the Greeks were then very much illiterate and uncivilised.
Some claim Aristotle wrote 400 books on all the sciences. Can one person achieve that feat in one lifetime? Some even claim it was 1,000 books. Bearing in mind also that Aristotle is termed a philosopher taught by Plato who was taught by Socrates. None of those knew any form of science. Socrates was tried and sentenced to death for teaching foreign ideas or culture (what he learnt in Egypt from the Egyptian adepts in libraries and temples). Plato and Aristotle then ran away into exile to avoid the same fate.
Put history right
All I, as an African, am asking is that history be put right by acknowledging the great contribution made by Africans to world civilisation and that Africans were not the savages missionaries claimed them to be. That white people stole our African legacy claiming it with the help of the Arabs. This confession will help by breaking down racial barriers; informing the world, white and black, that most of what the institutes and universities teach now have descended from Black African people and not the Greeks who stole them from the Egyptians and the Romans took from the Greeks.
Please Mr. Seaga, you and others can begin to make the true facts known. Many people don't even know that Egypt is in Africa. The Africans have not told the Arabs to leave northern Africa, but it may be a good idea if they volunteer, leaving Africa for the Africans. Inasmuch as the Arabs want Palestine, the Africans want Africa.
I am, etc.,
