There was a major disturbance at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus between Thursday night and early Friday morning as scores of students demonstrated.
They were protesting against living conditions at one of the halls of residence.
More than 400 students, comprising mainly of residents of Rex Nettleford Hall, demonstrated to highlight what they said was the failure of the University's administration to address their concerns.
According to the students many of the rooms at the Hall are without basic amenities such as functioning fridges and stoves.
Despite repeated complaints they say nothing has been done.
One of the protesting students told RJR News that the UWI has been charging persons more than $100,000 annually to live on hall but has not provided proper facilities.
It is also reported that robbers have been plaguing the dormitory.
Several cellular phones, laptops and cash were stolen on Wednesday night after robbers held up students.
Some of the students are threatening to boycott classes Friday if their concerns are not addressed by the administration.
