RJR News has been informed that an official announcement is to be made Thursday of the appointment of Sandals Group executive, John Lynch, as Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB).
Our news centre was informed on Wednesday night that a special meeting of Cabinet was held Wednesday afternoon and approval was given for the appointment of the new JTB Board.
Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has called a press conference for 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon to announce Mr. Lynch's appointment and the other members of the new JTB Board.
Our news centre has been informed that General Manager of Jamaica National Building Society, Earl Jarrett, is to serve as Deputy Chairman.
The other members of the Board are: Superclubs executive Zein Issa, JHTA President Wayne Cummings as well as former JHTA Presidents Lionel Reid, Josef Forstmayr and Godfrey Dyer.
Air Jamaica Senior Vice-President Paul Pennicooke will also sit on the Board.
Mr. Lynch's appointment to head the JTB is not expected to go down well with the Opposition People's National Party which has raised strong objection to him serving as Chairman.
Earlier this week Opposition Spokesman on Tourism Dr. Wykeham McNeil cited a conflict of interest.
Dr. McNeil said it would be improper for Mr. Lynch to serve in that capacity as he is a senior executive with the Sandals Hotel Chain.
The PNP wants an independent member to serve as JTB Chairman.
