  • Private sector gives Colonel Trevor McMillan the nod

The private sector has given the thumbs up to Colonel Trevor McMillan's appointment as a Special Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.

In his new role, Colonel McMillan will assist the Ministry in formulating and implementing policies which will enhance government's revenue collection drive.

He will also be responsible for rooting out corruption and minimising tax evasion.

Acting Chairman of the Economic Affairs & Taxation Committee of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Keith Collister, says Colonel McMillan is the right man for the job.

Colonel McMillan will also be assisting the Finance Ministry with the passage of a revised National Independent Investigative Authority Act.

The Act has the twin objectives of tackling corruption and protecting government revenue.

Colonel McMillan came to prominence as Head of the Revenue Protection Division (RPD) in the early 90's.

He later served as Commissioner of Police.

Commissioner of the Taxpayer Appeals Department (TAD), Errol Hudson, is to act as Director General of Tax Administration come next month.

He will hold the post as the current Director-General, Vinette Keene, is to go on one year's secondment from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.

Mrs. Keane is to take up a post at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC effective November 1.
