  • The new Air Jamaica Board has been named.

Transport Minister, Mike Henry, has released the names of the other members of the new Air Jamaica Board.

They join Shirley Williams who has been appointed the first woman to head the national airline.

The Board is a mixture of public and private sector officials.

"Tony Lindo, Noel Hylton, Marcia Forbes, Kingsley Cooper, Ian Kerr, a representative of the Jamaica Tourist Board and Hotel Association whose names I don't remember immediately, Mrs. Millicent Hughes, Rex Nettleford," said Mr. Henry.

In the meantime, the National Workers Union (NWU) says it is unhappy that an Air Jamaica employee was not included on the new Board.

NWU Vice-President Granville Valentine says this is contrary to an agreement reached earlier this year for greater worker participation in the airline's operations.

He says a proposal in this regard was also submitted to the special Parliamentary committee on Air Jamaica.

"We had made proposals to the last minister that any board being set up as of now should include a member of staff and that the workers would be given the opportunity to elect such member of staff who would sit on their behalf and make the kind of contribution expected there," said Mr. Valentine.

I too was amazed at that. Shouldn't he have the names on a paper as he spoke to the press?
