    'Corporatocracy'

    Monday, October 15, 2007

    Dear Editor,
Jamaica has always been ruled by the 'Corporatocracy' - corporations, financial institutions and the major players of the financial industry - but we are about to see an entrenchment of their agents in key areas of the economic administration of government. This could not have happened under a Seaga-led government.

They are no longer contented to run things covertly, but overtly. This is payback time. They who paid the piper are now going to call All the tunes. So much for the democracy.
We know that in many countries economic growth benefits only a small portion of the population and may in fact result in increasingly desperate circumstances for the majority.
The corporatocracy is not a conspiracy, but its members do endorse common values and goals. One of corporatocracy's most important functions is to expand and strengthen the system. The lives of those who "make it" and their accoutrements - their mansions, yachts and private jets - are present as models to inspire us all to consume. Interesting times are ahead.

I guess some of us hope to
make enough noise, so some scraps will be thrown our way. Interesting indeed.
