Jamaica and Guyana have patched up their differences following a trade dispute over rice supplies.
That is the word from Commerce Minister Karl Samuda following a meeting with Guyana's Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud Thursday.
It has been announced that Minister of State in the Commerce Ministry, Michael Stern, will be visiting Guyana next week to hold further talks on the importation of rice to Jamaica.
Mr. Samuda says the talks are aimed at avoiding future disagreements between the two countries.
He disclosed that 4,000 tonnes of rice now available in Guyana will be exported to Jamaica as soon as the Agriculture Minister returns home.
In the meantime, Mr. Samuda says rice that was requested from the United States is now in the island and is being distributed to supermarkets.
He explained that this was a temporary measure to alleviate the shortage which occurred following Hurricane Dean.
