Clarendon hand Vere 5-1 whipping

CHAPLETON, Clarendon - A Richard Barnett brace helped Clarendon College to a thumping one sided 5-1 beating of Vere Technical in yesterday's feature ISSA Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup Zone H game played in Chapleton.
In the first meeting of the two former champions who dominated the competition for a number of years, Clarendon outplayed their rivals and led 3-1 at half-time before cruising to their fifth straight win and spoiling Vere's unbeaten record in the process.
Damali Samuels scored his seventh goal of the season for Clarendon, while Vernon Sinclair and 14-year-old Vincent Mitchell also scored.

Denbigh moved to a point behind Vere and Lennon with a 4-0 spanking of Thompson Town, with Jermaine Christian opening his scoring account with a hat-trick, and Kevon Reid scoring a goal.
Defending champions Glenmuir High, as expected, roared back from their first first-round loss in six years to swamp Tacius Golding, 12-0.
Ricardo Webb led the way with five goals to take over the lead in the scoring race with eight, while James Thomas scored four to take his tally to six. Clovel Dinnal, Nigel Francis and Draion McNain were the other scorers for the Jackie Walters-coached school.
Garvey Maceo, who beat Glenmuir last Thursday, had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Central High in wet conditions, but maintained a one-point lead over Glenmuir in Zone I, on 10 points.
Meanwhile, three other teams maintained their perfect win records on yesterday's rain-hit day which saw at least three matches being called off due to water-logged field or lightning.
Frome Technical extended their streak to four games, while ending Rusea's perfect record with a 2-1 win. Clovis Crooks and Rojay Simpson scored for Frome, who lengthened their lead in Zone B to five points, as Merlene Ottey used home field advantage to beat Green Island, 3-1.
The Green Island coaching staff was not impressed with the conditions at Merlene Ottey, however, as they complained about the very poor underfoot conditions and foul smelling mud.
St James High sent Anchovy tumbling to their third straight loss in Zone A with a 2-1 win at Jarrett Park. Nicholie Barrett broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when he gave St James the lead with his seventh goal of the season, while Allan Ottey added the second to become the only other St James player to score this season.
Spalding High won their fourth in Zone G with a 3-0 win over Knox College, while Christiana High opened their account in fine style with an 8-1 thrashing of Albert Town.
Munro College had their perfect record sullied when their were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Black River and saw their lead in Zone E cut to one point as St Elizabeth Technical beat Maggotty 4-2 thanks to two goals from Comar Pascoe.
Ronaldo Joehill scored twice as Grange Hill won for the third straight time to stay atop Zone C with a 6-1 hammering of Little London.
Grange Hill have scored 11 times in their last two games as they surged to 10 points - one more than Mannings, who rebounded from Wednesday's loss to edge Maud McLeod 2-1. Petersfield lost ground after being held 0-0 by Godfrey Stewart High.
Ocho Rios took over the lead in Zone D on goal difference after outscoring Marcus Garvey 7-3, while Cedric Titus managed a 2-1 win over Brown's Town.
