Addressing the buying issue
Rumours
Rumors persists that the Big schools in T&F and football recruit potential stars before GSAT examinations, these youths are recruited from poorer schools who traditionally have been secondary and primary schools. Others have complained that this gives these Big schools an advantage because of their buying machinery which consists of an Ole boy network who are able to sell the brand name of the school along with other perks, the complaints have been that most of these youths are used and discarded after service with nothing to show for it, the most critical an education of the most basic need, reading and writing.
That said it is a rumored problem that needs to be addressed, 1st the rumor. If we can point to the top three schools in T&F and football and find that they have athletes transferred into these athletic powerhouses, then that rumor stands to be true based on circumstantial evidence, if that pattern seems to be annually perpetuated, then I would put money on it as it being a fact.
Problem
That said, I don’t see the problem going anywhere, it’s an opportunity for us to plant a progressive way forward and deal with an issue that did not just start, but which has been going on for decades and seems to be exploding in its hypocrisy of yapping.
Solution
The solution is simple, in the USA, colleges offer scholarships for amateur athletes, aren’t our athletes amateurs? So what is wrong with implementing a system which is in place, in the NCAA.They call it recruiting, and offer youths scholarships with perks, housing and education.
Suggestion
Every school except for the winners of their respective trophies be open to recruitment, where
a) The winner and runners up of B &G champs, Manning & Dacosta (all school boy football cups) are excluded from the process of recruitment. This negates a policy of domination
b) Every School there after is entitled to recruit two youth for a specific discipline be it track and field or football, or whatever discipline they deem necessary.
c) Once recruited for a discipline they can only part take in that disciple for a full year.
d) If recruited for a dual discipline they revoke a year of recruitment.
e) Stipulations for competing for a discipline are X standard of education must be maintained.
f) Failure to maintain X standard will result in that school being exempted from any recruitment for 3 years.
Conclusion
A school like Munro and Campion can recruit a 2 youths a year up to 5 and 6 th form and challenge for a cup in 4 to 5 years, maybe less depending on the talent pool the school has available. What this means is that schools have to dig deeper to find talent and upgrade their education. It seems everyone wins, even the yappers.
Of note : recruitment should not be dependent on passing or failing GSAT.
