  • Should Champs athletes/coaches be more vigilant?

Just saw this posted by a former Olympian on Facebook. Maybe she has a point?

Just an observation and my two cents - the athletes at boys and girls champs are treated very well . Once they cross the line they are given re-hydration fluid in open cups. I think that's great, however with the many positive drug test we have had, I would tell my athletes not to accept. Practice makes perfect and I wouldn't want them to do this anywhere else . They are also tested at these champs so as a caution practice from home- take nothing in an open container .

      Groan!

Just imagine a dehydrated athlete must suffer serious physical distress for fear of being tested and return of 'adverse analytically result'

Why has ISSA so punished the dehydrated?

Why the hell has the ISSA opened the door to 'the thought of scum-bags sabotaging'/criminally doping our kids as means to erasing points scored'?

Surely before 'testing' there would be no point in 'doping' athletes after they had already competed? Guess the message is, do not score points for your school as you may then become a target of saboteurs.

We are still behind in this area of modern sports. That is why we are vulnerable to both sabotage and negligence.

Hopefully we will get there soon. We have to for the sake of our young athletes and coaches who are on display this week. Champs is not just world class, it is Top of the World !

Really Hortical? So when SAF tests positive for medication after a toothache, that was deliberate cheating?

Our athletes have been more guilty of negligence than anything else. In my view they are still responsible for what they ingest, but I don't think we have a systematic cheating problem.

I am not at all concerned about our athletes receiving banned substances at Champs when they receive liquid to cool down after a race. The overwhelming majority of positive tests worldwide is due to deliberate cheating.

The positive test of oxycodone was silly negligence on behalf of the coach. That controlled substance must only be prescribed in cases of severe pain such as an amputation etc.

As i understood it, the concern was less one of whether they would be given a banned substance at Champs and more one of of them developing the bad habit of not thinking about it as an issue and doing the same thing elsewhere, for example World Juniors.
