PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos — The performance of Munro College's Delano Williams — a citizen of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) — at the recent Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championship in Kingston, Jamaica on Wednesday came in for special commendation here from Opposition Leader Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson.
"He continues to make us proud. I don't know how many of you were able to see the (100-metre) race, but as local Islanders say Delano 'mash them up', boasted the leader of the People's Democratic Movement (PDM) which is campaigning in a crucial by-election to be held tomorrow.
"He established a personal best and another record for the Turks and Caicos Islands when he won the Boys' 200 metre in 20.27 seconds, just outside the Champs record held by Usain Bolt. We say Delano to the World," Cartwright-Robinson told a press conference before going into her prepared speech.
She told reporters that Williams' achievement — winning both the Class One Boys 100 and 200 metres was no small feat but was one which other youngsters in the British Overseas Territory could emulate.
The Opposition leader added praised for TCI athlete Angelo Garland, also a student of Munro, for his performance at the Jamaican Boys and Girls Championships held last weekend. Garland, she said, seemed poised to become the next Delano Williams.
She commended the island's sporting body for its achievement and in preparing the TCI's team for the upcoming Carifta Games in The Bahamas.

Garland ran the first leg of the record setting 4x400m team, I believe.
