27 game unbeaten streak in the manning cup came to an end yesterday. Issa insisted that the dead rubber game be played. Most of the fringe players got a run.
A St George's defeat?!
CAMPERDOWN High scored a 3-2 win over Group J winners St George's College at the Constant Spring field yesterday to end the 27-game unbeaten run of the defending champions in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel Manning Cup competition. For the 1982 winners Camperdown, captain Tkiven Garnett scored in the sixth, 46th and 63rd minutes to complete a treble against a St George's contingent which rested a few of its key players ahead of the semi-finals on Saturday.
Amoy Brown (54th) and substitute Joel Francis (57th) briefly pulled St George's College back into the rescheduled encounter, which held little to no significance after the 'Light Blues' booked their place in the last four earlier this week.
St George's ended top of the group with six points from three matches, trailed by Holy Trinity High and Camperdown with four points each. The 1995 champions Charlie Smith finished at the base of the group with two points.
St George's will now turn their attention to the semi-final clash with 1994 winners Wolmer's Boys at the National Stadium. In the other match, 2004 champions Excelsior High face first-time semi-finalists Hydel High.
