Is like yuh nuh realize...dat is the power of INVESTMENT.

Way back in my time, we use to have fund raising for infrastucture (a pool that never materialized and a well that did). Winchester Park was a DUSTBOWL back in my time and they Faadah man dem use di BBQ money and other fundraising efforts to build a well (non-potable water) and from dat, not even drought affects the two fields.

Now there is no more Sahara to give students and nearby residents asthma! Upside is a beautiful filed there and at Emmett.

Yuh see the refurbed 4th form block to the right of the O'Hare Building? That is USAID money...tekQ Unc Sam. Ohare was refurbed by Old Bwoy Money after di chi-chi dem nyam out the wood.

We do the Champs thing too and OK with a top 10 spot. We dont have the size to win and we nuh shop the countryside for Class 4 boys.

St George's wants US$1m for Emmet Park lease
                By Garfield Myers Sports editor
                Monday, December 13, 2004

Members of the Jamaican cricket fraternity are expressing alarm that "exorbitant" demands by St George's College for the lease of Emmet Park could force the Jamaican Government and local CWC 2007 organisers to significantly alter arrangements for the use of Sabina Park as a World Cup venue.
Field important for Cricket World Cup

An authoritative source confirmed yesterday that St George's, a Jesuit-run high school, had demanded "in the region of US$1 million" for the lease of Emmet Park - which adjoins Sabina Park to the west - for a period of two months. The lease would be during the period of the cricket World Cup.
"The crux of the matter is that there is a vast difference between what is being asked (as the lease price for Emmet Park by St George's) and what the LOC (Local Organising Committee for CWC 2007) can afford," the source, who declined to be named, told the Observer.

Jamaica will host the CWC 2007 yellow package, which will involve an opening ceremony and four warm-up games at a new stadium in northern Trelawny and seven World Cup games, including the tournament opener and a semi-final at Sabina Park, Jamaica's historic headquarters of cricket.

Local organisers have long said that Sabina Park, located on South Camp Road in downtown Kingston, and surrounded by private residences, schools and businesses, will need access to adjacent Emmet Park if it is to successfully stage World Cup games. The understanding has always been that an agreement "in principle" existed between St George's and the Local Organising Committee.

Plans approved by World Cup organisers incorporated Emmet Park as a location for hospitality tents and other facilities for the duration of the tournament.

It was unclear yesterday what would be the next move should discussions with St George's fall through. Efforts to reach Dr Wayne Reid, chairman of the LOC, were unsuccessful yesterday, but the Observer learnt that he would again be meeting with "those in charge" at St George's this week in a bid to resolve the issue.

"The Emmet Park field is a necessity. It would be a tremendous setback if they can't reach an agreement," the source said.

At the Kingston Cricket Club's annual awards ceremony at Sabina Park on Saturday night, the club president Errol Ziadie, in his address, referred to reports of the million-dollar demand by St George's.

Ziadie suggested that his club, which owns Sabina Park, would have a responsibility to itself to ensure that "financially we reap some benefit out of that 2007 World Cup".

But he cautioned club members not to "lose sight of the fact that there has to be a happy medium somewhere. Don't be like St George's College, who, I understand, due to whatever ... mistaken belief that manna from heaven is about to drop ... want a million US dollars for Emmet Park ...."

"They may be out of the picture, so therefore we can't afford to be out of the picture," Ziadie said. The LOC has plans to buy residential property to the north of Sabina Park as part of the effort to modernise and expand the cricket facility to World Cup standard.

The Jamaica Government, which, like other Caribbean governments, will underwrite the bills and is central to the organisation of the Cricket World Cup, is currently finalising contractual arrangements for construction work to begin at Sabina Park and the so-called greenfield stadium in northern Trelawny.
Prime Minister P J Patterson is expected to make an announcement regarding the contract awards before year-end.

It is expected that renovation of Sabina Park and the development of Greenfield will cost approximately US$51 million of which the Government has pledged US$28 million - US$18 for Sabina Park and US$10 million for administration and Greenfield.

The promoters of Greenfield would expect to raise, via grants and loans, the bulk of the US$23 million that that facility is earmarked to cost.
