St Jago is not a premier boys school so it will be interesting to see if the public defender and the other big wigs scream at ISSA.

Top school hit hard by disqualifications

UPWARDS of a dozen male athletes from one major St Catherine school have been ruled ineligible for next week’s 102nd staging of the ISSA Grace Kennedy National High Schools Championships.
It was confirmed this morning that the title aspirations of the school, a two time Boys Champs winner, went up in smoke after it was ruled that a number of athletes, including medal winners from last year, were not properly registered.
A senior official at the Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), organisers of high schools sporting events in the island, told the Observer this morning that no birth certificates had been tendered for the athletes which he said were in all three classes.
An effort he said was made two weeks after the entry deadline to submit the documents but they were not accepted.

St Jago is a premier school period. So medal winners from last year (which school) can't participate this year??? Were these documents authentic? Ever try get a document at that place in Spanish Town? Why is ISSA literally prevent student athletes from participating?? Fine the school, suspend the coach but allow the athletes to take part....

St Jago High School (formerly Beckford & Smith) in Spanish Town, St Catherine, Jamaica, founded in 1744, is one of the oldest, continuously operated schools in the Western Hemisphere.

It's not a boys school. Its a co-ed school. The #1 reason why there was so much fuss when St Geoges got locked out was because it is a premier boys school. Yes, St Jago is a premier school.

It merged with Cathedral High, an Anglican girl's high school.

                      Huh,

Daddy Manley went there before transferring to JC, as did a lot of JC's famous alum.

O yes, a just remember hearing about the co-ed St G 6th form but somehow 'co-ed 6th form' don't count as 'co-ed' school. Remember the fuss when they appointed a woman as 'principal of St Georges!....was n't the fuss that they did not want a woman heading a boys school?

That was long before the co-ed. The current principal's father was headmaster in my time, BTW. I thought there was more fuss before that when StGC appointed the first layman principal who in fact was NOT an old boy, nor even catholic, but did have an STGC sponsored Master's in Ed from Boston College. Now that was a fuss to behold!

It is more significant than you think. To go co-ed, it means that new bathroom facilities had to be built at great expense for the upper and lower school. Gym facilities upgraded to accomodate the ladies, other physical investments in traditionally female sports, etc. Not cheap or accomplished from one day to the next.

Long and short....StGC enters Girls Champs too, so....
