      Rusea’s repeat
Hanover boys thwart STETHS for 10th D’Cup crown
BY PAUL A REID Observer writer
      Sunday, December 04, 2011

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Rusea's High School successfully defended their ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football title yesterday, denying St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) their maiden Rural Area double after winning the final, 1-0, at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Brian Brown scored his 38th goal of the season in the 48th minute as Rusea's avenged their only loss of the season on their way to their 10th title, and handed STETHS their only loss.

Rusea's will now host Manning Cup champions St George's College in the first leg of the All-Island Olivier Shield final at Jarrett Park on Wednesday.
STETHS had earlier in the season beaten Rusea's in the semi-finals of the Ben Francis KO on their way to the title, but had no answer to the marauding Hanover team yesterday.
Anthony 'Follies' Williams, the assistant coach of Rusea's, said they learned their lesson from the Ben Francis defeat and did their homework.
"We worked hard on our weakness. When we lost to them our weakness was conditioning, and the Monday after the game we started working on the physical part of our game," he told the Sunday Observer.
"We knew we're a technically better team than they are and once we were able to match them in the running aspect, we knew they would have a hard day," Williams said.
A decisive first 15 minutes of the second half proved to be the difference in the closely-contested affair and Williams said it was by design.
"At half-time we told he players that they were not getting most of the 50-50 balls and once we were able to do that, we would peg them back and force them into making mistakes."
STETHS coach Andrew Edwards gave credit to Rusea's, calling them "the better team today".
He said they had a good first half, but gave up a "silly freekick early in the second half and Brian Brown showed what a special talent he is".
After an even first half where the teams battled for midfield superiority, Rusea's produced a blistering first 15 minutes that pushed STETHS back into their own defensive area and resulted in the winning goal.
They won a freekick on the right-hand side in what was in effect a short corner two minutes into the half and Brown powered the ball through the defensive wall and under the body of the diving STETHS goalkeeper Leo-Pete Cole and off the far post.
Rusea's swarmed forward, kept up the pressure and created several chances, the best of which came in the 53rd minute when another freekick from Brown crashed off the crossbar and five minutes later when his long-range shot was turned away by Cole for a corner.
STETHS responded by making two changes, bringing on Jamel Sinclair and Rodney Whitter for Davian Ash and Donjay Smith, but while they managed to ease the pressure, they could not get past the tight Rusea's' defence.
STETHS' best chance to score came in the 80th minute when a mistake by right-back Tereto Gregory allowed Kaylee Bromfield a shot at goal, but the ball was saved off the line by a defender.

        Congrats to Ruseas.

Some of their fans carry on with some mad piece of driving on their way to the stadium.
